ABOUT THE BEE

Hello and welcome. The Foggy Bee is a creative retreat, art studio and gathering place. It's a place to ground and find rhythm. It's also a gallery showcasing the unique talents of local Downeast Maine artists.

Experience the unique environment and craggy coastline of Downeast and the quiet luxury of The Bee. Watch eagles soar over the water and mama fox hunt the cove to feed her kits. Enjoy the chug of the lobster boats if you're an early riser and the spectacular sunsets from the deck or the firepit after a satisfying Downeast day.

This is a wild (but safe) place to explore and create.  Art, memories or healing. Or all three. It's up to you.

The Bee sits on the steep banks of the Narragaugus River as it meets the Narragaugus Bay, located in Milbridge, Washington County, Maine. This area of Maine is referred to as Downeast, because it's down east of maritime Canada--way up north in Maine (wave to Nova Scotia from the expansive deck)!  It's an hour or so northeast of Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and its cousins, Northeast and Southwest Harbors.  Winter Harbor is about 25 minutes from The Bee and offers a ferry to Bar Harbor from July 1st through Labor Day. Bangor (pronounced "BanG-OR") is the closest largest city and airport, at just over an hour's drive and Belfast is an hour and a half.  The Canadian border (and Campobello Island) is also about an hour or so away (passport required).

The Foggy Bee was a sleepy little New England cape that underwent a major facelift (first photo). She's now a classic New England barn house with a sweeping view of the river and bay (second photo; the original cottage is now where the covered porch is).  Enjoy the light-filled, calming vibe of the working studio, common kitchen with a large island and a dining lounge to share family-style meals.  The front garden is a "walking" garden, and growing into a 3-season oasis.  The back garden (a "View With a Room"), is a veggie garden with companion flowers designed to entice pollinators to vacation here (the hummingbirds love the squash, gourd & cucumber trellises). Across the street (and part of the Bee family) is approximately 90 acres of wild blueberry barrens, deciduous and evergreen forest and a 1800's cemetery to explore.

The Bee buzzes with classes, retreats, workshops, healing programs and residencies.  It also hosts an in-person and online gallery featuring the creative genius of local artists.  Subscribe to get email notifications of new programs as they become available.
